El Lémur

The third week of classes is underway!

Introduce your children to a second language, and you give them a chance at greater fluency and access to countless professional and social opportunities later on. Spanish, a language spoken from the streets of Guatemala to the foothills of the Andes, is one of the most popular languages for children in the US to learn today. It is important to bring the language into YOUR home!

In order for your student to retain vocabulary and put together complete thoughts in Spanish, they need to practice outside of the hour we have during week.

I am providing pictures of some learned vocabulary before so you can get a glimpse into what we already learned.

Bienvenidos al Mundo Hispano

This year I have the great problem of way too many ideas of what to do on the first day of school.

I could not be more excited about beginning another school year of teaching PreK-5th! Spanish is so importante and I am blessed to be able to teach the language and culture.

Allow me to give you a glimpse into the first day of class!

BEFORE CLASS – A Spanish Pandora Station will be playing to acclimate them to the LATINO climate of my classroom
GREET – I greet all students at the door in Spanish with a smile and a seating card. I will ask their name in Spanish, modeling “Me llamo Senora Oliver” “¿Cómo te llamas?”
INTRO MYSELF – I will introduce myself using a PPT in Spanish with a lot of actions, movement and enthusiasm.
¿y tú? – I will ask each student what language is spoken at home
CIERTO O FALSO – We will play a fun game about common misconceptions about the Spanish language and the people who speak it
REFLECT – We will talk about expectations within the classroom and throughout Quest Academy

Next week is Meet the Teacher Night and I will handing out curriculum outlines for each specific grade. If you are unable to attend please email me and I can send it to you!

Mt Pacaya

We are doing some cross curricular learning in the Lemur class! In ciencias they learned all about tectonic plates and the core of the earth. It was very fun to watch their faces light up as they talked about what they already knew! We talked about el volcan, Mt Pacaya in my previous home country of Guatemala.

I am going to attach the videos we watched in class. We discussed the plantas, colores y tiempo we observed.

Lemur Learning

FULL STEAM AHEAD!

The lemur class has been moving fast and furious with El alfabeto español. We are learning what Spanish letters say in comparison to what English letters say.

Emociones
Las partes del cuerpo
El tiempo
Días de la semana
Numeros
Vocabulario del material escolar
Las frutas
Direcciones
Las formas
Ropa

As always, feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns! Fotos y videos to come!
