Las Hormigas-Otter Class

As we continue with our songs, finger play, frutas y colores we are taking a break to learn about hormigas! Since the otters recently welcomed an ant farm into their classroom I thought we could learn about them in SPANISH. Enjoy the video below that teaches us all about our new hormiga friends 🙂

I am also adding a popular kids show Los Mundos de Uli. It is an educational show, this particular episode is about hormigas!

2nd- Presentations

This week is our familia presentations! Students will use the familia unit vocabulary to present their families to the entire class. Of course, NO INGLES.

As we conclude this unit we move onto modales, manners. We are going to begin this unit with a funny video about someone who has NO modales and talk about what they should/should not do. As we move through this unit we are going to be doing a lot of skits and group activities. Be on the lookout for the common phrases post that will be coming soon 🙂

Lemur-El alfabeto o abecedario (ABC) español

The Spanish Alphabet!

Before break we were working on our Spanish sounds! We even created writing books where we wrote out the Spanish alphabet to conclude our unit. These books should be sent home in this weeks Friday folder!

As we conclude the unit on the alphabet we are moving into la clase, the classroom. We are going to be learning the vocabulario about the many things we have in our classrooms. Remember the song “Mi Mochila?” This song is jam packed with vocabulary we are going to be using throughout this next unit.

Vocabulary list to follow as we move forward in the unit.

1st- RITMO Y MOVIMIENTO

This week we are continuing to explore traditional Latin songs while solidifying our learning from last week!

We begin class with a fun game of introductions and “popcorn” around the room.

We are continuing to work on the rana song, la bamba, con mi dedito, La araña pequeñita and we explored some Zumba!

Be on the lookout for some new songs this week 🙂

4th- Entrevistas

Entrevista a un amigo : Interview a friend

Our interrogative words are coming into play! We are creating presentations using interrogative words/phrases. They may make a poster, Prezi, GLOGSTER, Wevideo, PowToon, PowerPoint/Slides to enhance their speech presentation. Presentations will be a minimum of a minute and a half of content.

As the school year comes to an end we are going to be demonstrating our communicative understanding and fluency of language through these presentations. I look forward to seeing the final products and sharing the final results.

Cultura: Internacionales

Culture:International

One of the most popular songs right now is Internacionales by Bomba Estéreo

I have played this video for 3rd, 4th and 5th and they had to figure out the meaning behind the song. It was cool to see the students fully engaged in deciphering what the song was about. I was blown away by the amount of detail they were able to pick up.

Have a listen for yourself and enjoy the beats!

K- El abecedario, alfabeto

El abecedario, alfabeto = lots of spelling fun!

This week we continue with our reading and writing by using white boards to spell and sound out vocabulario that we already know! It has been fun watching their faces light up as they read the differences in words with their “English glasses” versus their “Spanish glasses.”

Last week you should have received several work pages in Friday folders. We read several Spanish stories and answered the questions accordingly. Students loved the opportunity to read independently and worked at their own differentiated pace. In addition, I met one-on-one with each student to conduct reading and comprehension evaluations. If we met for conferences I was able to discuss the observations with you.

Moving forward we are going to continue exploring our “Spanish brains” as well as focusing on building our rhymes and song library.

VIDEO LOG WINNER

BIG CONGRATS to 4th grade for winning the video log competition!

Next Friday the 20th we will celebrate with a pelicula y Popsicle! Students are invited to bring in additional food and drink as well as long as it is cleared at the front desk before coming to class.

It was a tight race but 4th squeaked ahead after spring break! Congratulations to all classes on a valiant effort. Do not let the competition being done stop you from continuing to watch more content at home 🙂
