1st- RITMO Y MOVIMIENTO

This week we are going to get moving and singing(more than usual 🙂 ). We are focusing on singing and moving to traditional Spanish songs! By using rhythm and movement we are using our energy and body movements to solidify and reinforce our vocabulario! As we move throughout the week I will be attaching videos for you to see what songs we are learning.

Today we will be introducing the song ¨La Bamba.¨ This is an important song because it was one of the first ¨crossover¨ songs into traditional American culture. Culturally it was a gigantic step for Latino culture in the US.
“La Bamba” is a Mexican folk song, originally from the state of Veracruz, best known from a 1958 adaptation by Ritchie Valens, a top 40 hit in the U.S. charts and one of early rock and roll’s best-known songs. Valens’ version of “La Bamba” is ranked number 354 on Rolling Stone magazine′s list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. It is the only song on the list sung in a language other than English.

“La Bamba” has been covered by numerous artists, most notably by Los Lobos, whose version was the title track of the 1987 film La Bamba and reached No. 1 in the U.S. and UK singles charts in the same year!

I am attaching the traditional version of the song with the accompanied dance.

La Familia- 2nd

Hola!

This past week we have been learning all about the familia! I am attaching the family vocabulary below so you can learn along with your student. This week students will be presenting their family dibujos (drawings) to the class. Please be on the lookout for the projects as they will be sent home in Friday folders. Each family member was drawn and labeled by your student. It was fun to see the students use their art skills to enhance and solidify their Spanish learning. Ask them all about the masculine and feminine 😉

Moving on from this project we will be moving on Spanish songs! It is going to be exciting to get the kiddos learning new phrases in Spanish through song.

More links to be shared as we learn the songs throughout the week.

Your students have been pursuing excellence in reading Spanish. This is a tall order for the PreK room but they are rising to the challenge! We are still going over directions, numbers, body parts and learning new songs but the alphabet has been our main focus. We are sounding out using our English glasses vs. our Spanish glasses.

As always, if you have any questions please reach out!

Lemurs have been learning the Spanish alphabet! How do we read with our English glasses vs. how we read with our Spanish glasses?

We have also covered sports, directions, body parts, shapes, classroom materials and numbers just to name a few. They have also been doing some fantastic work that should have been sent home, be on the lookout!

Today in class we talking about Dr Seuss because it is his cumpleanos! We even watched a short video that was 100% in Spanish about the cat in the hat. It is important to expose our language learners to as much Spanish as possible, I was blown away by their understanding of the short film. Please make an effort to allow your student the opportunity to watch Spanish and listen to Spanish content.
